Jean-Philippe Maheu
Worldwide Chief Executive Officer, Publicis Modem
In March 2010 Jean-Philippe (JP) was appointed Worldwide Chief Executive Officer Publicis Modem, the global digital arm of Publicis Worldwide. Since its launch in 2007, Publicis Modem has grown rapidly to be the fourth largest digital agency in the world (RECMA, 2009), with a presence in more than 40 countries and over 1200 digital specialists. 2009 saw the network grow through a series of acquisitions and new business gains including Hewlett-Packard’s personal systems group (PSG) in the Europe, Middle East and Africa region, PayPal’s global digital business and Citibank and Hasbro’s digital business in the US.
Prior to Publicis Modem, as Chief Digital Officer of Ogilvy & Mather North America from 2007 to 2010, JP was responsible for Ogilvy’s digital strategy, including offerings, partnerships and recruitment. He defined digital strategy across the entire O&M Group and oversaw the execution of key digital initiatives across all operating units, including Ogilvy & Mather Advertising, OgilvyOne, OgilvyPR, OgilvyHealthWorld and Ogilvy Action. He led relationships with American Express, Siemens, Motorola and Nestlé and his digital new business drive landed several new multi-million dollar assignments.
From 1997–2003 JP’s career fast tracked from Vice President Sales and Strategy to CEO at leading online marketing services firm RAZORFISH. During his tenure, the company grew through a series of acquisitions and new business from new and existing clients including Avaya, Charles Schwab, GlaxoSmithKline, Ford Motor Company and JP Morgan, and he led Razorfish through IPO. As CEO he reversed quarterly loss into income by refocusing the company on client satisfaction and process excellence, and repositioning its offering.
JP has been invited to lecture on launching new ventures at Columbia University Graduate School of Business as Adjunct Professor (2004), and he served as Chief Executive Officer at contextual and behavioural advertising network ADMODUS (2005–2006).
JP launched his career in the world of management consultancy in 1989 with A. T. Kearney in Paris and New York. In 1995 he moved to Gunn Partners Management Consultants as a Principal.
He holds a Bachelor of Sciences in management information systems from Paris Dauphine University, a Master of Sciences in data communications from the Pierre et Marie Curie University, and a MBA from Kellogg Graduate School of Management, Northwestern University.
George Sugitomo
Creative Director, Dentsu
George Sugitomo is a castaway creative.
Born in Los Angeles raised in San Francisco in his early years, his upbringing helped create half his brain which is nothing near any gentle polite Japanese businessman. He is not only bilingual, but he speaks both languages with a different personality confusing the ones around him.
George started exploring his advertising creativity first at Hakuhodo as a copywriter, but soon found out his creative style that came from his Japanese-American background was very rare in the company, and stirred some sensation which he enjoyed thoroughly. Though he was successful with his job winning many advertising awards, he then quitted his job to go on a 3-year honeymoon exploring the rest of the world with his adventurous wife, before the world all changed and became blandly one.
When he finally drifted back to Tokyo after 4 years, nearly dying a couple of times, the advertising industry had changed dramatically from a one-way communication to a multiple-way conversation which he found extremely interesting. Dentsu didn’t have any hesitation to hire him as a global interactive creative with a unique experience.
In 2007 George was Dentsu Interactive Division Communication Planner. He had been promoted to position of Communication Design Center Creative Director in 2008.
In 2010 he was a member of ADFEST CYBER jury.
George enjoys every single day of his life, but he could sure have an identity crisis if it wasn’t for his beloved wife and daughter who help him cope with all the **** going around in the world.
Bridget Jung
Executive Creative Director, Digitas Paris
Bridget Jung has been in this industry longer than she cares to remember. Let’s just say it was way before iMacs. A rare combination of a strong digital background with a 360 focus, Bridget was Creative Director of OgilvyOne Paris as well as Global Creative Director of Nestle. She joined Digitas this year as Executive Creative Director to lead Nissan and other global accounts from Paris.
As an Australian who has worked in Sydney and London, married a French man and living in Paris with two smallish children, Bridget knows the importance of listening, being flexible and seeing the bigger picture. Enjoys red wine, cocktails and rugby but not in that order.
